The large dam built in the Himalayas and its overall impact:

The glacier burst took place in Chamoli district of Uttrakhand on February 7th this year.Environmentalists blame climate change and global warming as the main cause of the explosion. In parallel the dams built in the Himalayas have also been termed as the main reasons.Since the holocaust in Himalayan Dhauliganga river, scientists fear that these hydropower plants will bring a grave threat to the human race in the coming days.We are all aware that the 10th largest and 19th small hydroelectric plant dams were completely destroyed due to cloud burst at Kedernath in 2013.The devastating earthquake in 2015 in our neighbouring country Nepal, damaged the dam of more than 30 hydropower plants in the country.Thermal power plants are the main source of power. In the view of the gradual decline in the amount of renewable fuel used in these projects, most countries in the world focused more on power generation through hydropower projects. That is why the focus of the countries on hydropower projects has also been seen.India, Pakistan,Nepal,Bhutan many countries have tried to generate electricity by constructing dams in most of the rivers flowing through their respective countries.According to the international organization "World Commission on Dams" , efforts are currently being made to bring these rivers under the control of the people by constructing dams in about 60% of the world's rivers.Environmentalists around the world have been critizing the construction of large dams in the speedy rivers for many years. The construction of these dams will have a negative impact on the various ethnic groups living there. If these dams are demolished due to the earthquake then the lives of crores of people will be disrupted.Sometimes governments or dam construction companies are found neglecting these aspects.About 55% of the world's river dams are located on the Asian continent. These river dams have been contributing significantly to the economic and social progress of the people living in that particular area. Many dams have been constructed on the Himalayan fasting rivers. The incidents in Uttrakhand,Sikkim and Nepal have made a good sense of the terrible situation that will arise if those dams are demolished for various reasons. These dams have damaged the natural resources as well as reduced the amount of habitat and agricultural land. Therefore, instead of planning to build new dams in the Himalayan region, the emphasis should be on providing protection to dams which are already in construction.
